Sometimes, to find your place, you have to build it. This note handed to me completely changed everything before I started FoundersBeta. It still sits on my desk as a reminder. If you haven’t found your thing yet, this might be a sign to start that side project or join an early-stage startup. Find that calling. Find your tribe.
The best way to find a job in 2026 is to create it.
Here are some ways to get started:
1. Start a side project
A lot of people think they need to start a business. Starting a business is complicated, and most businesses fail within five years. So how do you get around this? Start a small project. Something you love. Something you’re good at. Something you can teach. This is where you can shine with your talent. The internet rewards those who share their stories and experiences.
2. Don’t have an idea? Join an early-stage startup
What if you don’t have an idea? Where do you get started? The best solution is to find early-stage founders. There’s usually little red tape, and many are looking for potential team members. This can be a few hours a week while you juggle a full-time job search or other ways to pay the bills.
3. Build your army of supporters
Accountability is the missing ingredient for many founders. This is where you truly need an army of supporters, not just fans.
4. Sustainability is the key to success
How do you make a project sustainable? Think about monetization early on — you’re not running a charity. Even charities need a source of revenue! Many entrepreneurs miss this by not putting a price tag on their product or service.
5. Write about your journey
This is where the magic happens. Share your experience. Did the project flop? That’s OK — chances are no one really noticed or even heard about it. The most important thing is to keep launching. I call this throwing spaghetti at the wall. If you keep throwing and testing, something will eventually stick.
6. Get active in the startup community
Communities are incredibly powerful for founders, as they help solve many common challenges — from finding co-founders to raising funding and everything in between.
7. Events can be a catalyst
As you plan your calendar for 2026, think about which events you’d like to attend. For a complete list of Startup Events see here.
