The Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP) supports Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to co-develop or validate innovative technologies with a foreign partner for international R&D collaboration. CIIP provides up to $600,000 per project, covering up to 50% of eligible costs for R&D activities that are close to commercialization, in partnership with organizations in select countries such as Brazil, China, India, Israel, South Korea, and Taiwan.

  • Eligible applicants: Canadian for-profit SMEs with up to 500 employees.
  • Funding amount: Up to 50% of eligible project costs, maximum $600,000 per R&D project.
  • Purpose: Support collaborative R&D projects with a clear commercialization path, including technology adaptation, validation, and co-development with international partners.

Administered by: Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) in partnership with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

Projects must have a foreign partner (from eligible countries), focus on innovative technology, and be aimed at market commercialization.
