About the role:

Borrowell is looking for a Content Specialist (12-month contract) to help fulfill Borrowell’s mission to make financial prosperity possible for everyone. This role is a leave coverage from Mid-May 2024 to Mid-May 2025. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Marketing, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our content is found when Canadians are searching for personal finance and credit education on the web and on social media.

In this role, you’ll have an opportunity to manage projects from end-to-end, from planning the editorial calendar, writing or assigning content, editing, publishing, measuring and testing new ideas through experiments. As a member of a small but mighty Marketing team, you’ll also gain exposure to other areas of marketing including paid search, mobile app marketing, affiliate/partner marketing and more.

Working with the Marketing team and cross-functionally with our Design, Data, and Partnership teams, you’ll own the content that educates Canadians about personal finance and drives them towards Borrowell. You’ll also support other teams to coordinate, create, and manage other content as needed, including product marketing and sponsorship posts.

This position is well-suited for someone with a strong balance of writing skills and social media experience, with experience/familiarity with communications (e.g. media and public relations) being a nice-to-have.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee organic traffic and acquisitions from organic search, and own secondary KPIs of social media followers/engagement
  • Develop and execute an editorial calendar that’s informed by keyword research, competitive monitoring and Borrowell product features/offers
  • Consistently produce a high quality and volume of content, including ensuring all content is factually correct, on-brand and follows SEO/social media best practices
  • Own updates of core Borrowell website pages including core product pages (e.g. free credit score, Rent Advantage, Credit Builder)
  • Take a data-driven approach to measure our content performance and our competitors to find opportunities to improve our content and drive discoverability on organic search
  • With guidance, propose and manage A/B tests on key marketing website landing pages to drive user engagement and conversions
  • Plan and execute campaigns/social media calendar to grow Borrowell’s social media presence and engagement on core social channels including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn while identifying opportunities to experiment with new audiences and channels to build brand awareness

Requirements

  • 2+ years of content, journalism, communications, social media and/ or SEO experience, ideally in a personal finance or tech environment
  • Effective communication skills as a writer/editor who can translate complex information into easy-to-understand copy and visuals, whether that’s long-form blog posts or bite-sized videos geared to each specific social media platform
  • Experience working with search engine optimization (SEO) concepts and tools to optimize content and analyze performance (e.g. Semrush, Moz, Google Search Console or others)
  • Experience growing and managing social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) from planning to execution
  • Ability to analyze data and form recommendations to drive continuous improvements or identify opportunities

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with A/B testing; writing copy for conversion or landing page optimization
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, PivotTables, Looker, Tableau, PowerBI or equivalent
  • Experience with content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, Contentful or similar
