Venture Lab

As the Lab Assistant, you will work with the ventureLAB team to support the Hardware Catalyst Initiative (HCI) – Test Engineering Lab.

The Hardware Catalyst Initiative is Canada’s first hardware and silicon lab and incubator, created by ventureLAB, a leading technology hub located in Markham in York Region, Canada’s second largest tech cluster. Through its programs focused on capital, talent, technology, and customers, ventureLAB has supported over 2,000 tech companies and entrepreneurs. ventureLAB’s innovation hub is a 50,000 square foot facility that is home to over 45 tech companies and partners. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of professionals, including the ventureLAB team, tech entrepreneurs, industry executives, public and private sector partners.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Director, HCI Lab, you will:

Support all functions and activities in the HCI Lab such as:

Inventory, schedule and maintain all HCI Lab test equipment.
Assist ventureLAB clients for needs that the HCI Lab provides.
Supervise activities and personnel working in the Lab.

Suggest ideas and recommendations to improve the Lab from yourself as well as the clients.

Manage the Phase 2 Lab project for the HCI program such as:

Attend meetings with outside vendors for projects needing quotes.
Be onsite when vendors are present to either deliver products or execute services.
Assist in working on tasks which could vary to assist this Phase 2 gets completed by mid-summer.

Application development:

Assist to develop a Lab schedule for publishing out to ventureLAB clients.
Assist to maintain and improve inventory support for Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Assist in all communication websites or applications between the HCI Lab and the ventureLAB clients.
Skills/Requirements:

Produce accurate documents, with a keen eye for details.
Eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program
Enrolled in or recently graduated from an electrical engineering program or computer science program in college or university.
A passion for being part of an exciting team looking to make a difference in their work
Project management experience an asset
An interest in technology, entrepreneurship and start-ups
Canada Summer Jobs Program Criteria:

Applicant is:

between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Hourly rate: $16/hour.

Hours: 35/week.
